RTG-ReMPro - Training & Career
Apply as a Doctoral Researcher in the RTG-ReMPro
The RTG-ReMPro is ideally suited for the training of doctoral students from natural sciences and medicine. Through the RTG-ReMPro qualification program and the supervision strategy, we create a structured and supportive scientific environment that promotes enthusiasm, team spirit and the ability to collaborate across disciplines from basic research with a potential for clinical applications.
The next cohort of doctoral candidates in medicine (Dr. med.) will start in October 2026. Please send your application as one PDF document (CV, cover letter, certificates) to Prof. Dr. Christoph Becker-Pauly: rempro@biochem.uni-kiel.de
The next cohort of doctoral candidates in natural sciences (Dr. rer. nat.) will start in October 2027. Please check back then for new opportunities.
Scientific
Competence

The RTG-ReMPro provides a graduate program in order to educate and support students in natural and medical sciences at the highest international level.
Scientific Independence

It is particularly important to strengthen the scientific independence of doctoral researchers through an optimal environment with excellent infrastructure.
Career
Perspective

Doctoral researchers meet scientists working in non-academic and private sectors and learn about career development and prospects outside academia.
The Supervision Strategy
Thesis-Advisory-Committee (TAC) Meetings
A structured supervision of all doctoral researchers is ensured by a Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC). The project progress, milestones, a prospective timeline and individual qualification measures are discussed in regular annual TAC-report-meetings.
Progress reports
For additional supportive feedback, all doctoral researchers present the progress of the scientific project once per year to all PIs and doctoral researchers of the RTG-ReMPro.

The Qualification Program
Practical course
The one-week training course in advanced laboratory techniques established in the five contributing medical institutes of the RTG-ReMPro is organized and mandatory for doctoral researchers in natural sciences in the first year. This practical course provides information about the technology platform that is available to all RTG-ReMPro members to successfully conduct their doctorates.
Workshops
The education of doctoral researchers in the RTG-ReMPro includes training of translational and soft skills in form of a comprehensive collection of workshops. The qualification program includes courses of the structural training program of the Graduate Center at Kiel University and complementary workshops organized by the RTG-ReMPro.
Seminar Series
The RTG-ReMPro Seminar Series provides the doctoral researchers additional insights into different fields of biomedical research, industry and career options. The doctoral researchers get the possibility to meet scientists working in non-academic and private sectors and to learn about career development and prospects outside academia.
ReMPro-Meetings /-Retreats /-Symposia /-Summer-Schools
Multiple events organized by the RTG-ReMPro and by the doctoral researchers provide occasions for social and scientific exchange during the complete doctorate.
